# Install Minimog manually

**Thank you for purchasing Minimog!** 🎉

**Want to install Minimog yourself?** This guide walks you through uploading the theme to Shopify and importing demo sample data to get started with your preferred design.

## Before you begin

Make sure you have:

* Purchased Minimog from ThemeForest (Envato).
* Access to your [Envato Downloads](https://themeforest.net/downloads) page.
* Permission to manage themes in your Shopify store.

<Hint type="info" title="Looking for a faster way?">
  You can install a Minimog demo automatically using FoxHome, without manually uploading theme files or copying demo settings.<br />

</Hint>

<Stepper>
  <Step title="Download the theme package">
    1. Log in to your [Envato Downloads](https://themeforest.net/downloads) page.
    2. Find **Minimog** in your purchased items.
    3. Click **Download** and select **All files & documentation**.
    4. Extract the downloaded ZIP package on your computer.
    5. Locate the installable theme file named `minimog-x.x.x.zip`, where `x.x.x` represents the theme version.

    <Hint type="info" title="Keep the theme ZIP file compressed">
      Only extract the main package downloaded from Envato. Keep `minimog-x.x.x.zip` compressed because Shopify requires a ZIP file for theme uploads.
    </Hint>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Upload Minimog to Shopify">
    Once you've located the installable theme ZIP file, you're ready to add Minimog to your store.

    1. From your Shopify admin, go to **Online Store > Themes**.
    2. Click **Import > Upload zip file** in the **Draft themes** section.
    3. Click **Add File** and select `minimog-x.x.x.zip`.
    4. Click **Upload file** and allow Shopify to finish importing the theme.

    <Hint type="success" title="Minimog is installed!">
      Once the upload is complete, Minimog will appear in your theme library.<br />

      You can now select **Customize** to edit the theme or **Preview** to view it before publishing.<br />

      The newly uploaded theme won't affect your live storefront until you publish it.
    </Hint>

    **What's next?**

    You can customize Minimog from scratch or import sample data to recreate a demo layout.

    If you don't need a demo layout, **stop here**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Download demo sample data (optional)">
    Minimog offers **80+ demo designs** across fashion, beauty, electronics, home decor, and other industries.

    You can import [sample data](#demo-sample-data) to apply a demo's homepage layout and theme settings.

    1. Open the `sample-data` folder inside your [extracted Minimog download package](#download-the-theme-package).
    2. Find the folder corresponding to your preferred demo.
    3. Open the folder and locate these two JSON files:
       * `templates/index.json` — contains the demo homepage structure and section settings.
       * `settings_data.json` — contains the demo's theme configuration settings.

    ![Minimog demo sample data folder containing templates and settings\_data.json files](https://docs-assets.foxecom.app/minimog-theme/image_lUBnlPDz.png)

    If your package doesn't contain a `sample-data` folder, download your preferred demo files from the [**Demo sample data downloads**](#demo-sample-data) section below.

    <Hint type="info" title="What does sample data include?">
      Importing these files applies demo theme settings and a homepage layout. It does not import Shopify products, collections, navigation menus, or the original demo photography.<br />

      You will need to add your own store content and images.
    </Hint>
  </Step>

  <Step title="Import demo sample data (optional)">
    <Hint type="warning" title="Back up your theme before importing">
      Importing demo sample data replaces existing theme configuration and homepage layout settings.<br />

      We recommend performing this process on a **newly uploaded, unpublished Minimog theme**.<br />

      If you've already customized your theme, **duplicate** it before proceeding. Do not overwrite these files on your live theme unless you intend to replace its current settings.
    </Hint>

    1. From your Shopify admin, go to **Online Store > Themes**.
    2. Find the Minimog theme you want to modify.
    3. Click the **three-dot menu (⋯) > Edit code**.
