# A restore says it put a file back, but the theme looks unchanged ## First: which theme did it write into? Open the activity log. The restore row names the theme it wrote into. - **A copy** — the file is in an unpublished copy in your theme library, not in your live theme. Preview the copy; publish it if it is what you want. This is the recommended target, so it is the usual answer. - **Your live theme** — the file is there. Clear your browser cache, or open the storefront in a private window. ## Next: the result was "Already in place" The theme already held exactly the recorded content, so nothing was written. Nothing changed because nothing needed to. If the problem is still there, the file you restored is not the file that is broken. ## Next: the problem is in a file that was added later A restore puts recorded files back and deletes nothing. A file added after the recording — a section, an asset, a snippet an app wrote — survives it. If that file is what broke the theme, restoring an older version does not remove it. For a whole-version restore, the confirm step listed those files by name. Remove them in Shopify's theme editor. See [A restore is not a rewind](https://docs.foxecom.com/snapty-app/history-and-restore/overview#a-restore-is-not-a-rewind). ## Next: the result was "Not confirmed" The write went through and the read-back did not match, or could not be completed. Open the file in your theme editor and check it. Restore again if it is not what you expect.
