# Add a Cookie banner

A cookie banner informs visitors that your store uses cookies and lets them manage their consent, helping your store comply with privacy regulations in supported regions.

Shopify includes a built-in cookie banner that you can customize without installing a third-party app.****&#x20;

### Before you start

Before enabling the cookie banner, make sure:

* [Customer Privacy](https://admin.shopify.com/settings/privacy) is configured in your Shopify admin. [Learn more](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/privacy-and-security/privacy/customer-privacy-settings/privacy-settings#understand-settings)
* Your store targets regions where cookie consent may be required (such as the EU or UK).

## Enable the cookie banner

1. Go to **Shopify Admin > Settings > Customer privacy**.

3. In the **Regions and content** section, choose between automated settings or manual customization:
   * To use automated settings, make sure that the **Use automated settings** button is activated. If it's not, then activate it using the toggle.    * For manual region customization, click **Edit** in the **Regions** section, select the regions where the cookie banner should display, click **Done**, and then click **Save**.
   * For manual content customization, click **Edit** in the **Content** section, make your modifications, click **Done**, and then click **Save**.

6. Optional: Click **View** in the **Position** section to preview the cookie banner on your store.

## Expected result

Visitors in supported regions see a cookie banner when they first visit your store and can choose whether to accept or manage cookies.
