# Show dynamic content for products using metafields

**Metafields** let you add extra information to your products, such as size charts, ingredient lists, warranty details, or custom product descriptions.

With Shopify metafields and FoxEcom themes, you can display this information on your product pages without editing any code. This guide walks you through the setup step by step.

### Before you start

Before you begin, make sure you have:

* A product metafield already created.
* Content added to the metafield for the products you'd like to display.

## Create a metafield definition (if you haven’t yet)

1. Go to **Shopify Admin > Settings > Metafields and metaobjects > Products**.
2. Click **Add definition**.
3. Fill in:
   * Name: e.g. `Short description`
   * Namespace and key: e.g. `custom.short_description`
   * Type: Single line text, File, or whatever you need (e.g., File for PDFs, Multi-line text for extra descriptions)![](https://docs-assets.foxecom.app/shared-documentation/ee22cad8-e336-4e0a-83bc-c9a7dc4ce28b.png)
4. Click **Save**.

## Add content to product metafield

1. Go to Shopify **Products > \[Choose a product]**.
2. Scroll down to the **Metafields** section at the bottom.

4. Click **Save.**

## Display metafield content in the theme editor

1. Go to **Online Store > Themes > \[Your Live or Draft theme] > Edit theme**.
2. In the top dropdown, choose **Products > Default product** (or a specific template).
3. Click on the section or block where you want to add dynamic content

5. Your product metafield is now connected to your theme and will display automatically for products that contain data. You can repeat the same process for other supported theme sections to showcase additional product information without editing any code.
