# Enable filters on collection pages
Filters help customers quickly narrow down products on collection pages based on attributes such as **availability, price, vendor, product type, variants, and metafields**.
All FoxEcom themes are compatible with [**Shopify Search & Discovery**](https://apps.shopify.com/search-and-discovery), allowing you to use Shopify's native storefront filters without additional customization.
### Before you start
* Install the [Shopify Search & Discovery app](https://apps.shopify.com/search-and-discovery) (if it isn't already installed).
* Configure the filters you'd like to display in the app. Your theme displays the filters you've configured in Shopify Search & Discovery. To add, remove, or reorder filters, update the settings in the app, [learn more on Shopify Help Center](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/online-store/storefront-search/search-and-discovery-filters).
## Enable filters in theme editor
1. Go to **Online Store > Edit theme**.
2. Open a **Collection** template.
3. Select the **Product grid** section.
4. Turn on **Enable filtering**
5. (Optional) Set up Expand filter groups.
6. Click **Save**.
## Using custom tag filters (Minimog theme only)
Skip this section if you're not using the Minimog theme.
**Minimog** theme includes a **Filter by custom tags** option. This feature lets you create filters based on manually assigned product tags. [Learn more](https://docs.foxecom.com/minimog-theme/collections-and-products/collection-page/product-listing#sorting-and-filtering)

We recommend using **Shopify Storefront Filters** whenever possible. They provide a more flexible, scalable, and native filtering experience, with support for product options, metafields, availability, price, and more.
Consider using **Filter by custom tags** only if you are using Minimog and your filtering requirements can't be achieved with Shopify's native storefront filters.
