# Add recipient fields to your gift card product

Recipient fields let customers send a gift card directly to someone else. When enabled, customers can enter the recipient's **name**, **email address**, and an optional **personal message**. After the order is completed, Shopify automatically sends the gift card and message to the recipient via email.

### Before you start

Before enabling recipient fields, make sure you've created a **gift card product** in **Shopify Admin > Products >** [**Gift cards**](https://admin.shopify.com/gift_cards). Learn more about [creating and selling gift cards](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/gift-card-products).

## Enable recipient fields in the theme editor

1. Go to **Online Store > Edit Theme**.
2. Open a **Default product** template.
3. Select a **gift card product** in the preview.
4. Select the **Buy buttons** block.
5. Turn on:

6. Click **Save**.
