# Understanding H1 tags All FoxEcom themes ## What is an H1 tag? An **H1 tag** is the main heading of a page. It tells visitors and search engines what the page is about. A clear H1 helps: * **Visitors quickly understand** the page content. * **Search engines** identify the page's main topic. ## How H1 tags work in FoxEcom themes FoxEcom themes follow Shopify's SEO best practices when generating H1 tags. * On the **homepage**, the store logo is usually used as the H1 by default.
Even if SEO tools warn about a missing H1, it won’t harm your ranking. The logo acting as an H1 is a common approach and works well for homepage SEO. If your theme doesn't use the store logo as the homepage H1 and you'd like to use this approach, contact our theme support team **(*happytohelp@foxecom.com*)**. We'll review your theme and let you know whether it's possible. ![image](https://docs-assets.foxecom.app/hyper-theme/image_LQ1KWaSZ.png) * On **product, collection, blog, and article pages**, Shopify automatically uses the page title as the H1. In most cases, no additional setup is required. ## Do multiple H1 tags affect SEO? Using multiple H1 tags on a page isn't necessarily an SEO issue. Modern search engines can understand pages with more than one H1 when they're used to structure the content logically. However, it's still a good practice to use **one primary H1 that clearly describes the page's main topic**. If your page contains multiple sections, make sure each additional H1 accurately introduces the content that follows. ## Customize H1 tags (Advanced) If you need to customize how H1 tags are rendered, you can edit your theme's Liquid files. Some of the changes recommended in this guide involve **making direct changes to the theme code**.
If you encounter difficulties with this, contact our FoxEcom theme support (***happytohelp@foxecom.com***) for more troubleshooting, customization, or functionality.
1. Go to **Online Store > Themes**. 2. Click **⋯ > Edit code**. 3. Open the relevant **`.liquid`** file in the **Snippets** folder. 4. Update the H1 markup as needed. ## Related articles Shopify SEO Overview Shopify Blogs: SEO basics Ecommerce Store Owners need to know Google Headings and Titles
